1. Introduction to Buddhist Prajna Temple
The Buddhist Prajna Temple was founded by Venerable Master Zhaoxu and fellow practitioners on 07 January 2005 in Kitchener. The temple is located at Unit 301, 265 King Street East, Kitchener, Ontario, Canada.
With the generous help of The Corporate Body of the Buddha Educational Foundation in Taiwan, the temple makes available a library of books, DVDs, VCDs, and tapes in different languages (Chinese, English, French, Vietnamese, etc.).It also holds a Dharma material distribution center, through which Dharma materials (books, DVDs, VCDs, etc.) may be distributed free of charge. The temple holds dharma lectures regularly, introducing the concept of Pure Land Study and the teachings of the Buddha to all. It provides an ideal place for studying to those who are interested in Buddhism. In the future, with enough resources, we will also establish a Dharma teacher/protector training school and a children’s group for studying Dharma, establish a Buddhist Adult Home, and provide funerary assistance. The temple is a non-profit governmentally registered educational organization, supported solely by donations.Except for the temple’s expenses, the money is used to propagate the Dharma through education, benefiting society through charity with love and compassion, promoting multi-cultural activities in society, and to sincerely enhance harmony among different religions and ethnic groups. It is our sincere hope that every student who comes in contact with this study shall prosper and benefit both spiritually and physically through practicing the Three Learnings of self-discipline, concentration, and wisdom.Ultimately, there can then be harmony among everyone, and world peace can be achieved. " Wherever the Buddha's teachings have flourished, either in cities or countrysides, people would gain inconceivable benefits. The land and people would be enveloped in peace. The sun and moon will shine clear and bright. Wind and rain would appear accordingly, and there will be no disasters. Nations would be prosperous and there would be no use for soldiers or weapons. People would abide by morality and accord with laws. They would be courteous and humble, and everyone would be content without injustices. There would be no thefts or violence. The strong would not dominate the weak and everyone would get their fair share” -- Quote from Infinite Life Sutra 2.The Goals and Aims
Empathizing with the suffering of all sentient beings, Buddha Shakyamuni came to our world to teach us how to transcend both suffering and the cycle of birth and death. His goal was to enable all beings to understand his teachings for to become enlightened. In our Dharma Ending Age, our negative karma is very strong, creating many obstacles to our way of practice.Lacking wisdom and good fortune, finding a good teacher who can guide us and properly explain the Buddha's teachings is extremely difficult for us. Knowing all this, the Buddha taught a special method:the Pure Land method for the beings of our time.
Buddhist Prajna Temple was established to advocate Pure Land teaching by extensively promoting proper education, explaining the Law of Cause and Effect, generating the Bodhi mind and encouraging all people to chant Amitabha Buddha's name and to vow to be born into the Pure Land. With these, we will be able to repay the kindness shown to us by the Buddhas, our country, our parents and teachers, and all sentient beings. We shall also be able to help all those who remain in suffering.
